Meet Saci Pererê!

Saci Pererê is a Brazilian folklore character  originated in the Indian tribes of southern Brazil.


The SACI has only one leg, and wears a red cap and is always smoking a pipe.


Initially, he was portrayed as a mischievous indigenous boy with two legs, sun tanned skin, and a tail!

With the influence of African mythology, the Saci became a little black boy who lost his leg while fighting capoeira, he also given a pipe and because of  European mythology, he was also given a red bonnet.

The main feature of SACI is that he loves playing  tricks, he is very playful with animals and people. As a consequence,  he ends up causing trouble, such as making the beans being cooked in the pan to burn, hide objects etc.

According to the mith, Saci can be found in the swirling wind and can be caught if the person throws a sieve on the top of the swirls.
After the Saci is caught,  it is necessary to remove the cap from the creature to ensure their obedience and keep the Saci  in a bottle.

The legend also says that Sacis are born from bamboo shoots, where they live  seven years and after that time, they live more seventy-seven years to disturb the life of  humans and animals, then after these 77 years, they die and turn into a poisonous mushroom.

On October 31st, Brazilian children celebrate the day of the SACI.
