Brazilian Talents Shine at Grammy 2011

It was a very moving evening, especially for the Portuguese speaking world, since Spanish uses to dominate the Grammy Latino Edition, being it the most spoken language in the Latin American World.  

But once again, our beloved language and our wonderful artists proved to the world that "yes, Portuguese is a very powerful language not only for written poetry but also for music!".

Nana Vasconcelos, born in Pernambuco, Brazil,  was awarded on Thursday (10) 2011 the Latin Grammy for Best Regional Music Album, with his latest work "Symphony and drumming."  The celebration of the award happened in Las Vegas, USA.

There were more Brazilian talents taking home the sought-after trophy:

Jota Quest won the Latin Grammy for Best Contemporary Pop Album, with the album  "Quinze," and Exaltasamba took the prize for Best Samba Album for "25 years - live concert".  The funk/rock group Skank won the Best Song award with "De repente".

Two Brazilians also received awards in Continent Categories: Best Children's Music Album award went to "Música de Brinquedo" by  Pato Fu and Best Classical Music Album went to "Brazilian Guitar Plays Villa-Lobos" album by the successful "Brazilian Guitar Quartet". 



Caetano Veloso won the Grammy for Best Brazilian Rock Album with "Zii and Zie - Live" which explores experimental sounds that he named as "transamba", combining samba, rock, dissonances and "noise" that surprises  those accustomed to the soft voice that characterizes the  Brazilian musician.


Djavan won a Grammy for Best Album of Brazilian Popular Music (MPB) with "Aria."
